Wildlife Park and Melbourne

the seventh of the fifth

We went to the wildlife park to finally see some koalas (although I didn't get to pat them). Got to play with the kangaroos though! They have a very soft fur, like puppies.

Sleepy Koala
Koalas actually sleep most of the day. If they're not sleeping, they are relaxing. For 4 hours a day they are feeding and only 3 minutes of their 24-hour-day they're travelling.

Little baby kangaroo. Cute!

These few pictures are from Melbourne, where we've spent our afternoon. It is a nice city, square streets, china town, greek part... But it doesn't have a centre, a city square, a park where everyone would meet up and just spend time. It's only streets with shops (and expensive ones, which strikes me as clothes in England can be super cheap. Not in Australia, though.)

Cool tiny little shop. Wish I had more moneys so that I could have purchased the turquoise snake skin clutch ;)

Wedding photo? Why not.

Goodbye, Melbourne, hope to see you soon!

Sovereign Hill

the sixth of the fifth

Did you know that there was a gold rush in Australia too? In Ballarat theres a little village called Sovereign Hill, where everything is like it's still 1800s. It is an open-air museum.
Below is a man making candles,  he turns the wheel a little,  takes candles,  puts them in the wax, puts them back on the wheel and turns it a little again.

We thought we'd have something printed. In an oldshool way.

This says: Wanted for horse stealing and furious riding!

Also stopped by the lighthouse, that was actually on the way to Sovereign Hill. Nice views.

Ocean Road and Rainforest

the fifth of the fifth

We hit the road. Had two days to get to Melbourne. It is not as far, but still quite a distance. This map pictures our road. It is not the quickest way possible to get to Melbourne, it's the scenic road. You'll see why when you scroll down.

Now there is a story about this one. This cliff is called London Bridge. It all used to be a cliff all the way but as you can see there's no rock in the middle anymore. That's because one day it just fell down. Luckily no one was hurt, but couple of tourists got stuck on the desserted part so they had a helicopter come pick them up.

At last, we went for a walk through the rainforest. It was getting dark and this is the least blurry picture my camera could take. You just got of the car and there you were in the middle of the rainforest.

Birds and the Blue lake

the fourth of the fifth

We met Steve Bourne, now former president of ISCA, who took us to this lake. In Australia they suffered major draughts in the past 10 years, and only this year they started to get some rain. That's why there actually is a lake.
It's fairly shallow and there's a wooden path leading to a scenic vista. Lot of birds on the lake!

Some black swans

And then on we went to the cave. Luckily it was a tiny nice one.

Little christmas tree

Steve took us to the blue lake. And it really was blue! It changes colour, and in the winter it is more grayish but in the summer it's said to be aquamarine. We were there in may, that would be november in northern hemisphere. Still pretty blue, don't you think?
By the way, this lake is in a crater.

This is Kent and some wine-tasting afterwards.
